Glitter Pumpkins – A Tutorial (ish)

Every year one of my favorite things to do is to make Glitter Pumpkins. If you’ve never heard of them, you’re in luck and you’re probably going to want to make them. This is a super simple craft to do, I mean, if I can do it, YOU definitely can do it.

Oh, and 2 more itty bitty pieces of advice:
    1) Check Savant Magazine for clues about what glitter provider is best to use – they reviewed them!
    2) If you’re doing this with a toddler (like me) just be prepared for glitter to be on your floor, table, chair, and toddler…no matter how hard you try to avoid this. But hey, Everyone could use a little glitter in their life right?!
    OK let’s do this

Supplies: A small brush, Elmer’s glue, Glitter – Fine Glitter is best, paper plates or newspaper & Pumpkins

I use Martha Stewart Craft Glitter in the following colors: Yellow Gold, Fire Opal, and Bronze.
You can use ANY colors you like, I prefer these since they’re Fall-sh.
I’ve seen these done in everything from pink to black and they all look pretty great.

I choose smaller pumpkins because they’re easier to use and don’t require as much time, energy, glitter.

Since I’m not equipped to take pictures and complete the craft, I’m going to tell you what I did 😉

I work over a paper plate to reduce the mess but you can use newspaper.

    • Paint your glue on the pumpkin in sections
    • After you apply the glue, shake on the glitter. The glue will dry clear.
    • You can shake the glitter directly on to the glued pumpkin.
    • I do this over a paper plate so it catches the extra glitter. Then I use a spoon and take the glitter off the plate and spoon it over the glued pumpkin to get a better coating.
    • Repeat all over the pumpkin until your pumpkin is coated in glitter.
    • Let dry for about an hour and then shake off the extra glitter. I also pour the excess glitter back into the container.

Check a video from Martha Stewart making these pumpkins:

Helpful tip: I don’t coat the bottom of the pumpkin in glue or glitter because really, no one sees that part of the pumpkin and it just reduces the amount of glitter left wherever you decide to place it.

So here is the end result. I put the larger pumpkin up on the mantle with my Fall decor.

I bought some leaves from the dollar store and placed them on a silver plate and put my pumpkins on top of that and used them as my table centerpiece. They look beautiful under the light.

By the way, yeah, I know I’m a little late for this and you may not be able to buy pumpkins since Halloween is over but there’s always next year 🙂

    Did you know…

Do you ever have one of those moments where you hear something and you go huh….I DID NOT KNOW THAT?!! How have I been missing that for so long? I have those.moments ALL.THE.TIME. Well, I’ve decided to share a few of those (not too many, I don’t want you to think I’m stoopid or something)

#1 – Bobby Pins go in with the WAVY SIDE DOWN! Not flat side down. No really…for the last 30 years I have been doing this wrong but not anymore! Now my bobby pins are not sticking up and are actually holding my hair, it’s pretty amazing stuff! Oh and there’s even a Facebook Support group for those of us who have been missing out on this little piece of info. You’re welcome 🙂

#2 – Sleeveless Sweaters are stupid. I mean seriously, let’s think about it. We wear sweaters to keep ourselves warm. SO…wearing a sweater without sleeves is kinda pointless, just saying.
#3 – Sleep Deprivation is a form of torture in some countries…When I heard this one…I was like yeah…that’s a good one!
#4 – The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear. Buddy the Elf is one wise Elf!
#5 – God’s Gift – When Googling “God’s Gift” for your paper on Salvation, every single image returned is a picture of “Pot” “Weed” “Bud” “The Sticky Icky” (I figured we could go sans picture here since I am 100% family friendly) Talk about random eh?
    #6 – Googling  is a weird word
And with that…I leave you with a few things to go Hmmmm about…Do you ever have these moments? I’d love to hear any of yours!
Please click below on Top Mommy Blogs, I’m #67 and slowly creeping my way back up to the Top 50 but need your help!!!

    Irish Themed Baby Shower

When my step-sister told me she wanted to have an Irish Themed Baby Shower, I was beyond thrilled! We’re huge St. Patrick’s Day fans and we love our Irish roots so this was perfect for me. This type of party would be great for an Irish Themed Baby Shower, Bridal Shower, or even St. Patrick’s Day party.

I made a lot of the decor and the sponsors and companies I used are at the bottom of the post. If you have ANY questions on how I did anything, please let me know via comment or email and I’ll help ya out!

    Enjoy 🙂

Starting with Invites which I got from Expressions Paperie:

DIY Scrapbook Paper Tree Holiday Art

Scrapbook Paper Holiday Art – Total Cost UNDER $5
Bringing you another easy peasy cheapie weapie way to festivize (yes, I make up new words) your home this holiday season! If you know me, you’ll know my craft specialty consists of Scrapbook Paper. I don’t want to scare anyone away with anything fancy, so I’ll stick with what I know.

*Disclaimer- I saw something similar to this online, somewhere, a few years back. I didn’t book mark it, it was pre Pinterest, I can’t find it now to give it credit. So whoever you are, thanks for the inspiration!

Supplies needed: Scrapbook Paper of your choice, 1 Foam Board. Scissors, & Glue.

I picked these scrapbook papers because they are in the Silver/Red Color scheme I love. The Candy Cane print was just too perfect to pass up. The three of these papers normally cost $4.00. I used a coupon and it was actually less but details schmetails (More fun made up words!)

I went a little fancy with the paper because 1) I love Glitter and 2) I had to have them.

Next, find a piece of Triangle or Christmas Tree Clip Art to print out and use as your template.

Cut out your three pieces and I also cut 3 stars out of each paper for the tops of the tree. Last minute I made a few bases for the trees with some brown paper. It needed it 🙂

Now here’s where the SUPER Savings Comes In. Instead of buying a Canvas, or a Frame, or anything costly or fancy to display your Christmas Trees, buy this Foam Board for ONE DOLLAR. I use them for Parties, to display tons of temporary decor. They’re strong enough to stand on their own and did I mention they cost ONE DOLLAR? I get mine at the dollar store. They have them at Walmart but they’re more than a buck so I stick with the dollar store.

    See- Nice boring foam board…..Transformed!

Next, you glue your trees and stars on to the foam. I’ve tried Mod Podge, it just doesn’t work as well on this type of surface. Stick with regular glue sticks. They’re perfect. And cheaper.

Finally, you need to cut your foam board to make it into a sign. You can make it large or small. I went for a smaller sign. Cutting the foam board is tricky. I’ve tried scissors, I’ve tried a kitchen knife but this is the way to do it. Pay Attention Pah-Leese! (RHONJ anyone?)

The BEST way to cut your foam board is with an exacto knife. It’s sharp enough to give you a straight edge. I usually line up something straight and glide the exacto against it to get a straight line. This time I used my kids toy. The one with all the animals that you can make pop up. It works perfectly as a guide and gave me a straight line.

And voila! Super cute Christmas Tree Scrapbook Paper Art for less than $5. I still have tons of fancy paper left over for more projects!

See now why I love glitter? So sparkly!
